In short
- No account, no profile. You never need to give us your name or email to use the site.
- Your photos stay on your device. When you make a palette or a gradient from an image, it is read by your browser and never sent to us.
- Analytics and personalized ads only if you agree. You choose in the cookie banner, and you can change your mind anytime.
- We never sell your personal information.
Who we are
Color Palette Library is an independent website run from Quebec, Canada. The person in charge of protecting personal information is the site owner. For any question or request about your information, write to us through our contact form.
What we collect, and why
When you visit. Like every website, our host receives technical information with each page you open: your IP address, your browser and device, the page and the time. It is used to deliver the pages, keep the site secure and fix problems, and is kept for a short time only.
Likes. When you like a palette, we add one to its count. We do not know who liked it: your browser remembers your likes on your own device.
Request a name. When you ask for a name for a color, we send only its hex code to our AI provider, Anthropic, which writes the name. To prevent abuse, your IP address is held in memory for one hour to limit the number of requests, then forgotten. It is never stored.
Analytics, with your consent. Google Analytics tells us which pages are visited, from which kind of device, from which country, and how visitors found us. It helps us decide what to make next. We look at these numbers as totals, not to follow a person.
Advertising. Ads from Google AdSense keep the site free. With your consent, Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your interests. Without it, Google shows ads that are not personalized.
When you write to us. Through the contact form or by email, we keep your name, your email address and your message to answer you, and nothing else.
Cookies
We use cookies and similar storage only as described in our cookie policy. Analytics and advertising cookies are off until you accept them, and you can change your choice anytime with Cookie settings, at the bottom of every page.
Who helps us run the site
We share information only with the services that run the site for us, and only what each one needs:
- Our hosting and storage providers, which serve the pages and files and keep the palettes, likes and color names.
- Google, for Analytics and AdSense, as described above. Google explains how it uses this information on its page How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- Anthropic, which receives only a hex code when you request a color name.
Some of these services store information outside Quebec, mostly in the United States. We choose providers that protect it to a standard comparable to Quebec law, and they may use it only to provide their service to us.
The Pinterest and Facebook buttons and the pins at the bottom of each page are plain links: nothing is sent to these networks unless you click them.
How long we keep it
We keep information only as long as we need it: technical logs for a short time, and messages for as long as needed to answer them. Analytics data is kept by Google for 14 months, then deleted.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to see the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. You can withdraw your consent to analytics and advertising anytime with Cookie settings. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to receive your information in a portable format, to object to some uses of it, or to opt out of personalized advertising, which Cookie settings does.
To make a request, write to us through our contact form. We answer within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec, or the data protection authority where you live.
Children
The site is not made for children under 14, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you think a child has given us information, write to us and we will delete it.
Security and changes
We protect the information we hold with reasonable measures, like encrypted connections and restricted access. If a security incident could cause you serious harm, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
If we change this policy, we will update the date below, and tell you on the site if the change is important.
